The Office of the Public Guardian has powers to safeguard vulnerable people who may lack capacity to make decisions for themselves.
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows a person to choose someone to make decisions for them at a time in the future when they no longer wish to make those decisions or may lack the mental capacity to do so. The decisions could be about such things as property, financial affairs or personal welfare.
An LPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before it can be used. There are two types:
A Personal Welfare LPA
A Property and Affairs LPA
