Local Health Services
December 16th 2009
Local Health Services in the community are provided by the Primary Health Care team. This includes:
- GP - family doctor, who can carry out home visits to monitor symptoms, prescribe medicine and make appropriate referrals
- District Nurses - provide skilled nursing care at home seven days a week, especially towards the end of life. In some areas an evening service is also available.
- Health visitors - mostly concerned with child health and family support.
Surgeries may also provide or arrange access to additional services such as:
- Physiotherapy
- Chiropody
- Counselling
- Occupational therapy
- Complementary therapies
- Dietician
Dorothy House staff work closely with the Primary Health Care team to provide the care services that are needed for patients and families affected by life threatening illness.
