TENS Machines

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator) machines deliver small electrical pulses to the body via electrodes placed on the skin. They are thought to affect the way pain signals are sent to the brain.

They are small, battery-operated devices which are attached to the body via wires and self adhesive electrode pads.

They are often used to help reduce pain. At Dorothy House TENS machines are also used for breathlessness management.
Units are available from pharmacies or, for Dorothy House patients, from Dorothy House physiotherapy department
TENS machines must not be used by patients with a heart pacemaker.
