Directions to Dorothy House Hospice Dorothy House is situated in Winsley, a village six miles to the south east of Bath. Winsley lies on the B3108, between the A36 and Bradford-on-Avon. In accordance with our green transport plan all visitors to Dorothy House are encouraged to use public transport or car share where possible. The A36 will be closed south of the Limpley Stoke Viaduct for 12 weeks commencing Monday 31st March 2008. Winsley Hill and Brassknocker Hill will be also be closed to all traffic at the Limpley Stoke Viaduct lights for the first 3 weeks during the day (7.00a.m. to 7.00 p.m.), but for the whole 12 weeks at night. FROM BATH For the 3 weeks commencing 31st March 2008 during the day (7 a.m. 7 p.m.) When Winsley Hill & Brassknocker Hill are open There will be a gatehouse to go through on the A36 near Bathampton. Advise
the gatehouse keeper that you are visiting Dorothy House Hospice at Winsley
and you will be let through. FROM THE SOUTH Following the A36, turn right on to the A361 (direction Trowbridge) and then left on to the B3109 to Bradford on Avon. The B3109 merges with the A363 just before Bradford on Avon. Continue along the A363 to the centre of Bradford on Avon, cross the bridge and then turn left up the A363 towards Bath. At the top of the hill keep left on the A363 and then turn left on to Winsley Road (B3108). Continue along this road, going straight on at roundabout into Winsley. (Do not take the by-pass around Winsley). Shortly after passing the Seven Stars public house, the road swings sharply to the right and Dorothy House will then be seen on the left hand side behind a high stone wall. FROM THE SOUTH (ALTERNATIVE ROUTE) Continue on the A36 towards Bath. Turn right into Abbey Lane by the Homewood Park Hotel signposted Freshford. Continue into Freshford until you come to a T junction. Turn left up New Road and then next right into Crowe Lane towards Lower Limpley Stoke. Continue until a T junction. Turn right on to the B3108 Winsley Hill going under the railway bridge. Follow the signposts to Winsley, proceeding up a steep hill. Shortly after the road levels out, the road swings to the left to by-pass Winsley village. Do not take the by-pass, but turn right at this junction into Winsley village. Turn right into the road at the side of the high stone wall surrounding Dorothy House and then turn left into the parking area. FROM THE M4 (TRAVELLING FROM THE WEST/M5) Leave the M4 at junction 18, taking the A46 towards Bath. Continue along the A46, joining the Batheaston by-pass at the bottom of the hill (signposted Chippenham and Bradford-on-Avon). At the roundabout (junction of A4 and A363), turn right under the railway bridge to Bradford-on-Avon (A363). Proceed up steep hill and as you enter Bradford-on-Avon, turn right at the mini-roundabout into Winsley Road (B3108). Continue along this road, going straight on at roundabout into Winsley. (Do not take the by-pass around Winsley). Shortly after passing the Seven Stars public house, the road swings sharply to the right and Dorothy House will then be seen on the left hand side behind a high stone wall. FROM THE M4 (TRAVELLING FROM THE EAST) Leave the M4 at junction 17, taking the A350 towards Chippenham. Follow the signs for the A4 and continue along the A4 through Pickwick (near Corsham) towards Bath. Shortly after passing through Pickwick, bear left onto the B3109 towards Bradford-on-Avon. Continue along this road, going straight on at the traffic lights at the Five Ways crossroads. On the outskirts of Bradford-on-Avon you will come to crossroads with the Leigh Park Hotel diagonally to your right. Turn right at this junction towards the A363. At the junction with the A363, turn left towards Bradford on Avon. As you enter Bradford-on-Avon, turn right at the mini-roundabout roundabout into Winsley Road (B3108). Continue along this road, going straight on at roundabout into Winsley. (Do not take the by-pass around Winsley). BY TRAIN The nearest stations are in Bath (6 miles) and Bradford-on-Avon (2 miles). From here, Winsley may be reached by taxi or by bus. BY BUS From Bath, 264 or 265 to Warminster. From Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge, 264 or 265 to Bath. Temporary shuttle buses are in operation during this period. From Bradford-on-Avon, Ashley Cabs (01225 868111) have an office at Bradford-on-Avon station. From Trowbridge, A & D Cabs (01225 755675) operate from the Station Approach.
