Nurse Specialists

Nurse Specialists are often people’s first point of contact with Dorothy House. Nurse Specialists are highly experienced registered nurses with expertise in specialist palliative care. They give advice and support to patients in GP practices, at home, in Dorothy House clinics, in community hospitals and in residential and nursing homes.

Our Nurse Specialists provide expert advice on symptom control and they offer an opportunity for patients to talk about any fears and anxieties, to discuss advance care plans and preferences for future care. They will provide up-to-date information about other services available, while also supporting families and carers, including during the early days following a bereavement.

Our nurses work closely with GPs, Community Nurses, hospital staff and other healthcare professionals to provide a high standard of consistent and integrated care, and to support people in adjusting their lives due to a life-limiting illness. Nurse Specialists can also refer to other appropriate Dorothy House services.
