Introduction to Palliative Care Emergencies

The course is designed to give an overview for Healthcare Professionals who care for people who are at the palliative stage of their illness. It will contain the following:

  1. Awareness of common palliative care emergencies
  2. Know how to recognise the signs and symptoms of the common emergencies
  3. Awareness of risk factors and possible treatment options
  4. Be clear what your role is when dealing with an emergency
Course delivery

This session will be delivered by Vicky Lear

Having recently completed her Masters in Advance practice, Vicky is an advocate for independent prescribing and nurse led care, whilst ensuring the community teams are providing excellent care. Working as Nurse Specialist for 11 years she has a wealth of experience in care in the community and symptom management.

This one day face to face or online course is for any Healthcare Professional who cares for people who are at the palliative stage of their illness and would like to have an overview of palliative care emergencies, how to recognise these, and how to respond.

Course content

The course includes information giving, and patient studies which participants will be invited to discuss and engage in debate with regards to best care and treatment.

  • What is a Palliative Care Emergency?
  • Important things to consider when assessing a patient
  • Common Palliative Care Emergencies, how to recognise and manage them
