This is the way in which we view our own bodies. Sometimes, but by no means in all cases, this is affected by an illness (such as MND), a surgical operation (e.g. formation of a stoma) or treatment for an illness (e.g. chemotherapy). It can have a profound effect upon us as individuals as well as our relationships with others/those that we love.
It often helps to talk about how we feel in this type of situation. This may be with a nurse or doctor that we know (e.g. GP or Nurse Specialist) but sometimes more help is required in the form of counselling.
How we dress may help us feel more confident, so taking advice about clothing styles may also be of benefit.
The cancer support charity Look Good Feel Better (see Links below) runs skin care and make up workshops in a number of hospitals. Phone or email them for more information or visit their website for a Directory showing where and when the workshops occur.
