Occupational Therapy

The aim of an Occupational Therapist (OT) is to work with patients and their family and/or carers, to limit the effects of disability and promote independence in all aspects of daily life.

OTs can help patients adapt to their changing functional ability and to plan ahead to take account of deterioration.

OT intervention aims to affirm life – providing people with physical, social and emotional opportunity, and a sense of control in their own lives. Commonly, a person's functional ability,  home environment and their need for equipment/adaptation are assessed.

OTs can also offer advice on management of common symptoms such as fatigue and anxiety.
