Servicing a community of more than 550,000 people across approx. 700 sq. miles, Dorothy House Hospice Care (www.dorothyhouse.co.uk) is the primary “end of life” support provider to the Bath/Wiltshire & Somerset borders. Providing a mixture of Residential/In-Patient, Hospice at Home and Outreach support services to over 700 people per day, they deliver solace and support underpinned by a unique sense of place, purpose, respite and respect across their portfolio of activities. This is based on a sound financial platform with a £10m budget and an employed establishment of 360 supported by a deployed volunteer force of nearly 1,100 across their HQ, Community, two outreach and 27 retail facilities. It is a sophisticated complex operation with genuine brand equity and a strong Board & Executive. They seek a dynamic CEO to proactively lead & manage the organisation’s services to meet the changing needs of their Client Group whilst reflecting the shifting landscape of the NHS and the social demographics of the next decade.
The Role is about inspiring and engaging through leadership and management, building and shaping an accountable team, planning, measuring and optimising the spread/utilisation of internal resources and by the proactive partnering of stakeholders to provide modern, market-led, flexible, cost effective solutions. The Remit is strategic, tactical and operational i.e. establishing and setting the agenda then funding, financing and resourcing it to deliver to time cost and quality (across all stakeholder touch points). The Responsibility is for balancing the inevitable tension between financial prudence and care provision to provide the highest quality end of life care and support within a financially sustainable envelope. The Requirement is for control, stewardship and leadership albeit with empathy, sensitivity and energy to deliver the mission and meet the regulatory criteria of CQC, Hospice UK, and the Charity Commission.
Capability is more important than qualification with EQ as critical as IQ. You are probably a graduate and/or an MBA., It is highly likely that you are either in the care sector or the health community, but you will be a leader in the round e.g. P&L responsible/Balance Sheet & Capital literate, harnessing MI & measurement to drive performance and focusing on care as the DNA of the organisation. You are people centric and engage – taking people with you whilst having the “radar” to read political, socio-economic and behavioural signs. You leverage discipline, structure and accountability to harness both people and process to ensure they support rather than prevent successful fulfilment. You may already be a CEO or an “heir-apparent” and it would be an advantage to have experience of working within a strong governance structure with an experienced Chairman and Board.
