About the Education Department

The Education Department at Dorothy House helps health care professionals not only to understand more about the work we do here, but also to gain a range of skills needed for effective end of life care.  

We are specialists in educating, training and developing staff in a range of health and social care settings and have expertise in palliative care, bereavement, team working and communication skills.  

Education provision includes programmes aimed at both a local and national audience, and targeted at different levels. The Education Department offers a range of education and training opportunities, through:  

 An annual programme of workshops and conferences

 Outreach programmes tailored to meet needs and taught in the workplace  

 Training and development of our own staff and volunteers   

 GP Education and Support  

 Higher education and accredited palliative care courses

 Placements

We also offer open afternoons for health and social care staff who would simply like to find out more about what we do.  

The training we provide is focused around the following areas:  

 End of Life Care / Palliative Care

Communication Skills needed in End of Life care situations  

 Syringe Driver Management

 Advance Care Planning  

 Bereavement   

 Clinical Supervision
