Dorothy House Hospice Care invests in the education, training and development of its staff, volunteers and trustees to enable the delivery of appropriate high quality specialist palliative care services to patients and their carers.
We are specialists in educating, training and developing staff in a range of health and social care settings and have expertise in palliative care, bereavement, team working and communication skills.
Education provision includes programmes aimed at both a local and national audience, and targeted at different levels. The Education Department offers a range of education and training opportunities, through:-
- An annual programme of workshops and conferences
- Outreach programmes tailored to meet needs and taught in the workplace
- Training and development of our own staff and volunteers
- GP Education and Support
- Higher education and accredited palliative care courses

Library Facilities
The education department maintains a specialist palliative care library of books, journals, videos, CDs, other resources with internet access in the promotion of self-study activity for staff, volunteers and local health and social care professionals.
Approaching 1,000 books held in stock covering palliative care, bereavement, complementary therapies, research and audit.
A resource file containing over 1,200 catalogued articles.
Medical, nursing and other health and social care journals – currently over 20 titles are available to library users.
External users may use the library during normal office hours for reference purposes only.
External participants on higher education and accredited courses at Dorothy House are entitled to temporary membership of the library on payment of a refundable deposit.
