Dorothy House welcomes carers, family and friends of our patients to this section of the website
This information is for anyone caring for one of our patients. If you are caring for someone who is not a patient of Dorothy House, you will find general advice by following the link to our A-Z of information.
“Who cares for me while I care for …?” This is a perfectly reasonable question. There are many ways Dorothy House can help you cope with caring for people with life-threatening illness, who are near the end of life. Being diagnosed with such illnesses should not mean that ‘normal’ life grinds to a halt. It does mean patients, their families and carers sometimes need help to deal with the consequences.
This is a guide to the support we provide and it signposts other sources of help.
Following the links on the left hand side of this page will take you to information on:
a) The teams of Dorothy House professionals, where we explain what they do for our patients and in particular what support they can offer you.
b) How you can access help for yourself.
In particular, you may wish to
have your own needs assessed
or join in
a carers’ course
a carers’ support group
a COPE rehabilitation group along with the person you are caring for
special events such as talks, carers week and so on.
All our services are free of charge to those who need them.
Please note that we have trained volunteers working under supervision in our professional teams both at the hospice in Winsley and out in the community.
