As we approach the end of the year, many of us will be looking forward to spending time with our families and friends over the festive season. We will be making choices about gifts we will be giving; where we will be eating our Christmas meal and how we will share our time amongst our loved ones who may be in different parts of the country.
For many patients of Dorothy House they might be coming to terms with the fact that this Christmas could be their last and they will be keen to fit in as many traditions and special moments as possible; things that many of us take for granted. With the support of Dorothy House staff hopefully this will be possible.
Many of our staff at Dorothy House will be working throughout the Christmas period doing everything they can to ensure all our patients have the best Christmas possible, wherever they choose.
Over the Christmas period, Rachel and the other Hospice at Home Co-ordinators will be supporting the many nurses and carers providing Hospice at Home. On Christmas Day itself, Dr. Tricia Needham will be working alongside the team of nurses on the In-Patient Unit. Also, our team of chefs, Dan, Simon, Nancy and Mark, will be cooking that special Christmas meal for patients and their families who will be spending Christmas Day in Dorothy House. We hope that you will help us make their Christmas one to truly remember.
It is at Christmas, and as we await the New Year that we think about the year ahead – what it will bring for us and those around us. The one thing we know at Dorothy House is that it will bring more and more people who need our help.
But we can only continue to offer our care because of the donations we have received from supporters like you. It is a difficult time for charities and Dorothy House has not been exempt from this.
We know there are many causes that are doing worthwhile work and we are extremely grateful for your continued support. We are your local hospice and a part of your local community, and we are asking you to consider making a Christmas gift this year to Dorothy House.
Our care does not finish at the end of the festive season, and in order to continue to offer our care throughout the coming year we hope you might consider setting up a regular donation to Dorothy House. Even if you could only spare a few pounds each month this planned giving would enable us to plan our care into the future.
Dorothy House has one vision and that is to give our patients the dignity and compassion they deserve when nearing the end of their lives. With your help we can ensure this continues.
From myself and the whole team at Dorothy House we wish you a peaceful Christmas and New Year.
