Bereaved Children

Children needing support following the death of a loved one can find help from a number of  local and national bereavement organisations. The range of services offered will vary and may include counselling, group work, residential weekends, telephone support etc.

Dorothy House offers bereavement support to children, young people and their families whose relatives have had care from Dorothy House.

Bristol Bereavement Forum is a website listing local and national bereavement services.

Local agencies:

  • Focus Counselling Service operates in Bath.
  • PAC (Positive Action on Cancer) provide counselling to children  and young people bereaved by cancer and other life threatening illnesses. They have a range of services available in Frome, Bath, Trowbridge and Warminster.
  • Rainbow Centre in Bristol offers one to one support to children and young people bereaved from any cause.
  • Winston's Wish is a national charity supporting children pre and post bereavement. It's services include residential weekends, a telephone help line, and good resources for children, families and professionals on its website.

National agencies:

  • Child Bereavement Charity offers training and support and resources on child bereavement.
  • Childhood Bereavement Network is dedicated to supporting all bereaved young people and families. Their website holds information for families as well as a directory of all services in the UK.
  • Cruse Bereavement Care offers a website, resources and some individual support to children nationally.
  • Winston's Wish offers an interactive website and resources nationally plus residential weekends to all in UK.
