Helping someone to move can mean anything from steadying someone as they walk, to helping them transfer between bed and a chair, to helping them turn over in bed. Here are some things to bear in mind:
If a patient suddenly or over a matter of a few hours becomes unable to walk, this is a medical emergency and you need to seek medical help straight away.
In more normal circumstances, if the need for help happens gradually or is variable, ask for advice and information from your District Nurse or Dorothy House Nurse Specialist. Do not attempt lifting, or moving anyone without such advice or help.
Your District Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist will be able to advise on equipment which might help to move someone safely. Your GP will be able to refer you to whichever service is most appropriate.
