As we prepare for the festive season, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all our staff and volunteers to wish you all the very best for Christmas and the New Year. I would also like to thank you for your support for Dorothy House in the past.
Gifts from our supporters – however large or small – allow us to help our patients and their families get the most out of life. As you can imagine, that’s especially important for those facing what could be their last Christmas together.
Even for those of us in the best of health, the festive season can be challenging, but just imagine what it’s like to try and organise shopping, gift-wrapping, decorating the tree – let alone cooking Christmas lunch – when a member of your family is seriously ill. For the people we care for, it can be a very stressful time.
Dorothy House helps such families to cope, by working with them to plan their Christmas at home.
We can liaise with GPs and district nurses, social workers and occupational therapists to make sure the family has enough medication to cover the holiday period, or any special equipment that might be needed.
The 24-hour helpline ensures that there’s always someone on hand to answer questions and give reassurance – including Christmas Day.
Dorothy House Hospice at Home carers may be asked to visit for a few extra hours, allowing people to get on with their festive preparations, knowing the patient is in safe hands.
Our patients benefit so much from such support – but we can only continue to provide it with your help. So while you’re planning your own Christmas celebrations, do spare a thought for those who are going through a very tough time.
Your kind donation will help a patient and their family to make the very best of their Christmas. If you would like to help us continue to care when it counts through the coming year and beyond, please consider pledging a regular gift; you can download a donation form below which will enable you to do this.
Please send a gift today to help us continue making a difference to local people’s lives – it may be the best present you give anyone this year.
